Smile, Smell, Kiss

The song with the funniest name is the most serious on the album. Written for the same ex I met on the street in the song above not long after we broke up - right about at the moment when I realized what I had just lost.

Smile, Smell, Kiss

I messed up the best thing I ever had.
I’m an idiot for letting you go. I miss you bad.
You’re the girl who was my perfect compliment.
I had it good I wish I understood how much that meant.
Do you know that you are still my best friend?
It seems no one can make me smile no more the way you can.

I lost your smile. I lost your smell. I lost your kiss.
I lost your insight, confidence, and your wit.
Your soft, reassuring embrace
Your things scattered all around my place.
And that devious, don’t catch me opps I’m busted look upon your face.

I know that you don’t like me too much now.
I deserve it, but it hurts to think you don’t want to see me around.
I think of all the fun we used to have
Playing round, making jokes, holding your hand.
God I wish that I could see you tonight.
I wish that I could look into your eyes through candlelight.

I lost your smile. I lost your smell. I lost your kiss.
I lost my address that read Laura and Chris.
Our Sunday morning walking
Learning from everything you taught me
And sleeping through the sound of your talking.

I can’t deny the truth I feel inside
You’re the one part of my life that was going right.
We were meant to be together before we met.
I hope I didn’t blow the best part of my life that hasn’t happened yet.
Can’t predict the future, try to learn from the past
If you ever took me back, I’d want that relationship to be my last.
